A field of Pink Ladies appeared in Kingaroy last week as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The event was organised by Birds Of A Feather – a team of breast cancer survivors which raises funds for research – and local breast care nurse Ros Melmeth.

Some of the pink ladies were sporting name tags to recall friends or family members who had died from the disease.

And one of the little figures was wearing a handsome blue bow tie, to remember the 100 or so men who get diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Australia, too.

Fast Facts:

  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in Australian women
  • On average, 44 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer every day
  • The number of people being diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia is increasing; but the number of deaths is decreasing
  • The risk of developing breast cancer increases with age
  • The risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer by age 85 is 1-in-8 for women and 1-in-838 for men
  • The average age of first diagnosis of breast cancer is 60 years

The Pink Ladies will be heading up the highway to Cherbourg this week where they will make an appearance on Wednesday (October 26) from 10:00am at Community Health.
