Port Macquarie guitarist Mat Brooker kept a packed house enthralled with his mix of Latin fusion music on Wednesday night.

The free concert at The Shed is the first of what organiser Jane Erkens hopes will be many musicial nights at the venue near Scott Car Park.

“It was a fabulous night,” Jane told southburnett.com.au.

“We had 65 adults in there as well as some children, and they were all enthralled.”

Jane said she had always had the idea of “house concerts” at The Shed, and Wednesday night’s concert proved it was possible.

“There’s a lot of people in town who just want to go out somewhere,” she said.

Mat is a self-taught guitarist. His repertoire included nouveau flamenco, rumba and Latin music played on a Spanish guitar.

He also played his own original compositions as well as putting a Latin spin on some old favourites.

At the end of the night, a hat was passed around and whatever was raised was handed over to Mat.

“He set a very high standard,” Jane said. “We will now have to try to maintain that standard with the artists who come along.”
