The refurbished Yarraman Library will be re-open to the public at 10:00am on Tuesday (July 5).

Toowoomba Regional Council Library and Cultural Services portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia said a vastly upgraded building was ready to welcome existing and new library members.

Cr Ramia said the $164,000 refurbishment had revamped the building inside and out.

“While the former building was a serviceable space, the refurbishment has provided new and more functional areas,” Cr Ramia said.

“Council retained the heritage values of the former Post Office while creating a more modern and workable interior. The building has been painted inside and out.

“An accessible parking space has been built at the rear of the building right beside the ramp. This will greatly aid access for people using the disability car space or people who find it easier to use the ramp.

“The toilet has been refitted to offer accessible use for the public.

“The building has been re-modelled to allow more flexible use to accommodate residents’ needs. The shelving is on wheels so the space can be opened up for activities or meetings.

“The collection is refreshed regularly to offer residents new items to browse and borrow.

“Residents will be able to enjoy new furnishings in the dedicated reading lounge area which offers free wi-fi. The room can be used and entered separately outside normal library hours by prior arrangement.

“A section could be converted into a disaster co-ordination centre for the area if required.”

Cr Ramia said a number of Yarraman contractors and suppliers were used during the refurbishment including plumbing, tiling, bobcat and fabrication suppliers and services.

The Library will extend its morning opening hours and has plans for new programs.

It will be open on Tuesdays from 10:00am-1:00pm and 2:00pm-5:00pm; Wednesdays 10:00am-1:00pm; Thursdays 10:00am-1:00pm and 2:00pm-5:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am to noon.

Children of all ages have been invited to attend a free holiday activity at the Library to make and decorate a papier-mache pen holder from 10:30am to noon on Thursday (July 7).

Cr Ramia said all residents were welcome to visit the Library for the official re-opening function which will be held next Saturday (July 9) at 10:00am.
