We Can Still Win Flynn: Joyce

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce has not written off the electorate of Flynn – which includes Wondai, Proston, Durong and Tingoora – as a win for the LNP.

The latest figures from the Australian Electoral Commission show that ALP candidate Zac Beers is leading the LNP’s Ken Dowd by 24,366 votes to 23,671.

On a two-candidate preferred basis, this translates to 34,701 votes for Mr Beers, and 32,643 for Mr O’Dowd.

But Mr Joyce, speaking on ABC RN on Monday afternoon, said Flynn was “not lost”.

“If you take Flynn, for instance, when postal votes come in – and there’s a number of them out there – if you take the trend from the proportion of the postal votes that we got last time and acknowledge that there is a diminished trend because there’s a slight swing, we’d still win Flynn,” he said.

“And we’d still win Capricornia.

“So let’s not start dismissing the fact that some of these seats are lost. They’re not lost.

“You can’t call them lost until all your postal votes are in.

“And in those two instances, if you do the mathematics on the trend on postal votes, taking into account a diminished flow by reason of the swing, they’re still ahead, we’d still win.”
