The folks at Kumbia love to get together for a few drinks to raise money for a good cause … they also seem to have a great passion for colourful and crazy wigs.
Once a year, the weird and wonderful costumes come out for the Brain Drain to raise funds for the Kumbia State School (this year’s event is on August 27).
And Kumbia Kindy has had its own “pink” and “purple” fundraising days …
So it’s no surprise that the town’s latest fundraiser, organised by the Kumbia QCWA, had a colourful theme: “Winter, Woollies and Wigs”.
The QCWA ladies organised a fun night at the Kumbia Hotel on Saturday to raise money for the now-famous Burrumbuttock Hay Run.
Paul Gleich, from Murgon, who has taken part in two hay runs to western Queensland, came along for the night along with other South Burnett residents who took part in the last Burrumbuttock run.
They explained the history of the Burrumbuttock Run and their experiences out west.
The pub was packed with people wearing colourful wigs, and a few necessary woollies for a cool winter’s night.
They tucked into a roast dinner and enjoyed live entertainment in the beer garden.
A silent auction and raffles also added to the fundraising.
UPDATE: About $4000 was raised on the night. Kumbia QCWA would like to thank Cr Ros Heit, Stanwell, Sengs Sales and Service and the local businesses who donated goods for raffles and the silent auction.
