It’s time to look on top of the wardrobe, under the bed and in the back of drawers for those long-lost heirlooms … Kumbia’s annual Antiques Roadshow is on again next month.
This will be the fourth time the Kumbia Progress Association has held the popular event.
“Our roadshow grows in popularity each year and last year’s weekend format worked well in giving the valuer more time to discuss each guest’s treasures,” Progress Association president Stephanie Stevens said.
“As usual, we were all astonished by the huge array of articles brought in for appraisal.”
Valuer Ray Dalton travels from Victoria every year to host the event.
“He and his wife enjoy the hospitality extended to them by the Kumbia community,” Steph said.
“Ray has an engaging personality and a quirky sense of humour and has become a feature of the weekend himself.
“His knowledge seems boundless and guests always leave the Kumbia Antiques Roadshow not only having learned more about antiques, but also pick up a few tips on how to spot a bargain.”
Everyone is allowed to bring two small items (no furniture) for valuation.
A written valuation will be provided.
Lunch and afternoon tea will also be served during the day.
“Everyone is seated and you will be called up in turn for your items to be appraised,” Steph said.
“Not only do you learn more about your own pieces but you will see and learn about the other treasures brought in.
“If there is some family history or a story attached to your items, this always adds extra interest for the audience.
“This year we will have a camera on the table linked to a large screen so you will be able to see the items in detail as Ray talks about them.”
The Kumbia Antiques Roadshow will be held on July 30-31.
On Saturday, the session will begin at 10:30am and on Sunday, at 11:00am.
Tickets are $25 per day (or $40 for both days) which includes two valuations and meals.
Tickets are available from Options and Kingaroy Office Central in Kingaroy, and Lenihan’s Butchery in Kumbia.
“When purchasing your tickets, please specify which day you wish to come,” Steph said.
“There will be no ticket sales at the door as seating is limited.
“This year there will be markets in the Kumbia Hall grounds on Saturday, starting at 8:00am, so come along and snap up a bargain.
“If you have large items or wish to have a number of pieces valued, Ray will come to your home on Monday.”
