Getting ready to ride, from left, Tamika Perkins, Kodie Stead and Josie Potter

The Kingaroy Cruisers will be hitting the bitumen again soon in their annual trek to Brisbane to take part in the Brissie To The Bay cycle fundraiser for MS Queensland.

It will be the sixth year in a row that Kingaroy resident Josie Potter has taken part in the ride, a remarkable feat considering she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2000 and was in hospital in a critical condition in September 2013.

Participants have the choice of four distances to ride: 10km, 25km, 50km or 100km on June 19.

Josie has registered for the 25km ride, but some of the other members of the Kingaroy Cruisers team will be pushing themselves much further.

Several riders have registered for the 100km ride, including Kingaroy resident Kodie Stead, whose grandmother was diagnosed with MS eight years ago, and former Kingaroy – now Gladstone – rider Tamika Perkins.

Both girls rode in the 50km Brissie To The Bay route last year but have decided to step up to the longer distance to test themselves this time.

This is the 26th year that the Brissie To The Bay ride has been  held, and thousands of riders are expected to take part.

Last year’s event attracted about 9000 riders and broke Queensland records as the biggest ever bike ride held in the State.

This year organisers are hoping to break another record and raise $1.8 million from the event.

The Kingaroy Cruisers team, which consists of 25 riders, will be playing their part.  Last year they raised an amazing $18,100.

Supporters who would like to sponsor the team can make a donation on their fundraising page

Or keep an eye out for the team’s raffle.  Sellers will be at Kingaroy Shoppingworld on Saturday, June 11, and on Thursday, June 16, in Kingaroy Street outside the chemist.
