Sunday afternoon went from bad to worse for an alleged shoplifter at SupaIGA Kingaroy.

About 2:00pm, police were called to the store after staff confronted a man who had allegedly taken food items from the store without paying for them.

Snr Sgt Frank said a store employee took the items off the man who then left.

Police located the man nearby and took him into custody.

But at sometime during the afternoon, the man apparently also dropped his wallet which was handed into police.

Snr Sgt Frank said that when police searched the wallet they located a white powder.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with shop-stealing and possessing dangerous drugs.

He will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on July 18.
