Member for Clayfield Tim Nicholls officially tossed his hat into the ring on Thursday for Friday’s LNP Party Room ballot to decide the Opposition Leader.

He joins Everton MP Tim Mander who announced on Wednesday that he would stand for the role after former Opposition Leader Jeff Seeney confirmed he would move a spill motion against current party leader Lawrence Springborg at the special party room meeting.

Mr Springborg said on Thursday that he, too, would re-stand for the role to make it a three-cornered contest.

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington had been tipped by city media as a likely Deputy to either of the “Tims”.

However, it is now believed that Mr Mander is leaning towards Mt Ommaney MP Tarnya Smith for the role.

Mr Nicholls told Fairfax media he would be “happy” to have Mrs Frecklington as his deputy.

southburnett.com.au asked Mrs Frecklington on Thursday morning (at the LNP Vegetation Management Forum in Kingaroy) what was going to happen in the party room, but she was non-committal.

“Well, I’m here talking about native veg with Crippsy (Shadow Natural Resources Minister Andrew Cripps) and that’s what I am extremely pleased to be doing right now. So I’m actually happy if this meeting goes all day!” she replied.
