A 42-year-old man was airlifted to Bundaberg Hospital with suspected spinal injuries after a police vehicle was involved in a rollover on the Burnett Highway south of Ban Ban Springs on Tuesday afternoon.

The single-vehicle incident occurred about seven kilometres south of Ban Ban Springs just before noon.

An RACQ CareFlight spokesman said the man was travelling in the passenger seat of the vehicle which rolled several times down an embankment from the southbound lane of the highway.

The Bundaberg-based helicopter landed on the road to allow paramedics to assist the patient.

The man was airlifted to Bundaberg Base Hospital in a stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle received only minor injuries and did not require transportation.

A police spokesperson said it appeared the vehicle had been doing a U-turn when it rolled down the embankment, but investigations were still underway.

It is not known if the injured man is a police officer.
