Peta Rutherford ... new role

May 4, 2016

Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service South Burnett Cluster Manager Peta Rutherford is packing her bags to head to Canberra.

Ms Rutherford was this week named the new CEO of the Rural Doctors Association of Australia (RDAA).

She has more than 20 years’ experience in the health sector, including management, planning, funding applications and the implementation of key health service and health workforce initiatives.

Her career has also included an involvement with Queensland’s Rural Generalist Pathway.

“Peta comes to us very highly recommended,” RDAA president Dr Ewen McPhee said.

“She has a very strong understanding of rural health, hospital and primary care services and the important role they play, not only in health service provision in rural communities but also in the training of future rural doctors.

“She has been at the forefront of innovative service delivery and rural health workforce strategies for much of her career.

“We greatly look forward to officially welcoming her to our National Office in Canberra as our new CEO, from June 1.”

Ms Rutherford replaces outgoing CEO Jenny Johnson who was in the role for more than five years.

“Jenny has been a wonderful CEO for our association and has earned significant respect from the many stakeholders, including senior government ministers, politicians and policy-makers, with whom she has engaged during her time with us,” Dr McPhee said.
