Principal Angela Myles outside the new two-storey building at St Mary’s Catholic College … classes began in the building within the last fortnight

May 30, 2016

Saint Mary’s Catholic College in Kingaroy hosted an open day on Friday morning to allow parents, prospective students and the general public to inspect several new buildings at the school.

Principal Angela Myles said classes had just begun in the new two-storey block, which faces Kent Street.

Originally it had been hoped the building, which includes a lift, would be completed for the start of this school year but wet weather at the end of 2015 delayed construction.

The new block has four classrooms upstairs and two downstairs, and also includes two office spaces and a new meeting area for the School Board.

The downstairs classrooms feature a folding wall so the space can be opened out into one large room if needed.

Visitors to the school also had the opportunity to inspect the new music block, which opened last term.

This building features storage areas and three practice rooms as well as a classroom equipped with circular desks and a string of keyboards.

“The P&F  have been very generous in supporting the music program,” Mrs Myles said.

She said the school currently had 530 children enrolled.

A grant application has been submitted to build three more classrooms between the Music Block and the Reconciliation Garden.
