Media reports are tipping that Deputy Prime Minister – and Member for Wide Bay – Warren Truss will announce his retirement as early as Thursday.

However, he is expected to stay in his role until March 17.

The former Kingaroy Shire Chairman was elected as the Member for Wide Bay in 1990, and was appointed Federal Leader of the National Party in 2007.

During his Parliamentary career he has served as Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Minister, Customs and Consumer Affairs Minister, Transport and Regional Services Minister, and Trade Minister.

After the 2013 election, he was sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister.

In April last year, he celebrated 25 years of serving in Federal Parliament.

Trade Minister Andrew Robb is also expected to announce his resignation on Thursday.
