The dead ringtail possum which was removed from Moonya St by a Kingaroy resident

February 8, 2016

A Kingaroy resident has contacted Ergon Energy after he found an electrocuted ringtail possum at the foot of a power pole in Moonya Street last week.

The resident told southburnett.com.au this was third dead possum he had found at the foot of this particular pole, which is up the hill from Macdiarmid Street.

“The cause is uninsulated dropper wires from the high voltage line to the transformer,” he said.

He said the wires should be upgraded to insulated cables during routine maintenance to stop possums being killed.

“The pollies state the distribution system is gold-plated so less money is required for maintenance and more redundancies. There is still a lot that needs to be done,” he said.

southburnett.com.au has previously reported on incidents in Kingaroy and Yarraman where ex-possums caused long blackouts.
