Fundraising has already begun for a second Burrumbuttock Hay Run to western Queensland … and the South Burnett is again heavily involved.

Last month a record-breaking convoy of trucks – including two road-trains from Murgon-based Gleich Contracting – carried hay to drought-stricken farmers at Ilfracombe, west of Barcaldine.

The Burrumbuttock Hay Run was organised by NSW wheat and sheep farmer Brendan Farrell. It attracted 124 prime movers, towing a total of 160 trailers.

Brendan has now begun planning for a second Queensland run, scheduled to arrive at Ilfracombe on April 1.

The aim is for this run to be even bigger and better than the last one.

And Gleich Contracting owner Paul Gleich has again volunteered to help.

First up is a fundraiser, a Golf and Barefoot Bowls Day, which will be held at Murgon Golf Club and Murgon Bowls Club from noon on Saturday, February 27.

There will be an auction and raffles throughout the day plus lunch and dinner followed by live entertainment.

For more information, contact Paul on 0419-720-310 or Kristy on 0429-683-121.

Paul has also set up a depot in Wondai to receive donations of hay for the run.

“Any hay, any size, any amount … all donations gratefully received!” he said.

All the hay must be at the depot by Thursday, March 24.

It will be loaded onto trucks locally which will then head out west to join the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners coming up from NSW.

To make arrangements to donate hay, call Paul on 0419-720-310.
