The big brass from the Queensland Police rolled into Kingaroy on Wednesday to salute some of the area’s finest boys (and girl) in blue.

The medal and award ceremony recognised police officers from the Dalby Burnett Patrol Group, which includes all South Burnett police stations.

Assistant Commissioner Tony Wright presented the medals after a morning tea held at the Town Common Hall.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, was presented with the highest medal on the day, the National Emergency Medal for sustained service during the 2010-11 floods.

Asst Commissioner Wright said the ceremony was an opportunity to recognise the hard work of the Queensland Police Service’s sworn and unsworn members and the long hours they put in.

Inspector Michael Bianchi said the event was showcasing the best police in the South Burnett.

Other medals presented included the National Medal, the National Police Service Medal and the Queensland Police Service Medal; none of these are automatically earned. The recipients must have demonstrated diligent and ethical service.

Two special recipients were retired Kingaroy police officer Graeme Beard, who was presented with the National Police Service Medal (15 years) and Sgt Colin Jackson, from Murgon Station, who was presented with the Queensland Police Service Medal (5th clasp) for 35 years service.
