A 41-year-old South Burnett man facing eight charges following an alleged domestic violence incident in Yarraman on Saturday night was refused bail when he appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon.

The man has been charged with entering a dwelling with intent while armed with a knife, deprivation of liberty, wounding, common assault, obstructing a police officer, breaching bail and two counts of breaching a domestic violence order.

Police Prosecutor Pepe Gangemi opposed bail saying the man had “punctured” his partner and made threats to kill her in March, had breached bail in April during an incident which included self-harm with a knife, and then on May 2 had pushed his partner and smashed a guitar.

Sgt Gangemi said that just three and a half hours after he had been bailed by a court he had breached the conditions by having contact with the aggrieved.

“He went back and pleaded to that on October 8 … two days later there are allegations again of a knife injuring the aggrieved and presenting a knife to police and threats of self-harm,” Sgt Gangemi said.

“He perpetually continues his offending behaviour.”

Defence solicitor Mark Werner said his client had been diagnosed with anxiety and depression “and perhaps some other illnesses are operating here”.

He said if his client was refused bail it would be unjust because of the amount of time he could be held in custody before the charges were dealt with, the limited support for his mental health issues in prison, and the fact he had lined up employment which would allow him to start a new life.

Magistrate Simon Young refused bail saying the man was an unacceptable risk.

He remanded him in custody to November 16.
