The Winds Of Change Art Gallery in George Street, Nanango is showing mixed media artworks by Karen Russell throughout October.

Karen is a South Burnett artist who moved to Nanango from Brisbane several years ago.

During a long illness, Karen began exploring her artistic side and the art forms she displays in this month’s exhibition include pastels, mosaics and chain mail, as well as many other creative mediums.

Karen has also written and illustrated her first book – Deakon the Dragon is Sad – which is due for release in 2016

This month the gallery will be running workshops in paper tole and mixed media.

Well-known paper tole artist Rosemarie Matthews-Frederick, who was September’s Artist Of The Month, will be showing students how to create stunning 3D works of art from 2D prints.

Rosemarie’s Paper Tole Workshop will run from10:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, October 17-18.

Course fees are $35 per day for Gallery members (or $60 for both days) and $40 for non-members (or $70 for both days).

The following weekend, the Gallery will be presenting a Mixed Media Workshop with Maryanne which will allow students to explore the creative possibilities of different art forms.

It will be a one day workshop running from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, October 24.

Course fees are $35 for Gallery members or $40 for non-members

The Gallery’s Plein Air (ie open air) art group meets on Thursdays between 10:00am and 1:00pm.

Members explore and share techniques, tricks and tips with pastels, paint, sketching and more.

All skill levels are welcome and there is no charge to join in.

The Gallery’s pottery group meets every Friday from 10:00am.

Members usually create a new piece every week with guidance from potter Sharon Shipley, but spaces are limited.

If you’d like to take part, contact the Gallery beforehand on 0409-060-315 to confirm your place.

Cost is $5 per meeting plus materials.

The Nanango Art Society is calling for Expressions of Interest for arts projects and exhibitions.

Members of the public are very welcome to become part of our independent arts cooperative, and get involved in exciting projects and exhibitions showcasing talented local artists.
