Former Nanango Shire deputy mayor Ros Gregor … one of the original forces behind the creation of the Tipperary Flat walking track

September 30, 2015

Former Nanango Shire deputy mayor, and long-time Nanango Historical Society president, Ros Gregor has been recognised by having the nature walk leading to Tipperary Flat named after her.

A small ceremony was held in Nanango on Tuesday morning to mark the occasion.

South Burnett mayor Wayne Kratzmann said Council had endorsed the idea unanimously when it was raised by Cr Barry Green earlier this year.

However, Cr Green said former Nanango councillor John Lee had originally raised the idea “years ago” on Nanango Council but the wheels of local government can sometimes move very slowly.

Cr Green said Tipperary Flat and the nature walk area would never had happened in the first place if it wasn’t for Ros.

He said Council had only named two things in Nanango over the past eight years: the first was the Ben Walters Bridge, which recognised a Nanango pioneer, and now the Ros Gregor Nature Track.

“Ros is an integral part of the Nanango community,” Cr Green said.

“What she has done, particularly at Ringsfield, is unbelievable. I have never seen it looking like it is today. It is absolutely magnificent and a real legacy.”

Ros said the Tipperary Flat area had become quite an eyesore, with abandoned car bodies and dumped rubbish, when she began pushing on Nanango Council for the area to be cleared and cleaned up.
