The lonely “For Sale” on the fence of the motel development site

September 29, 2015

The dream of a new multi-million motel and conference centre development in Kingaroy has evaporated with the property being put on the market.

The $5.3 million Across Country Motel was to be built on Walter Road.

The original plan to build a 42-room motel, a 150-seat restaurant area and bar, and a function room to cater for 250 people was unveiled with some fanfare by the developers in February 2014.

Three months later, the plans were scaled back to a 32-room motel, a 60-seat restaurant and 200-seat function room.

Clearing the site and extensive earthworks began soon afterwards.

The plan was for the motel to open last October but when that date came and went, rumours began spreading the project was in trouble.

southburnett.com.au understands that a dispute between some of the people involved in the project, and a lack of bank finance, eventually led to the work crawling to a halt.

A “For Sale” was affixed to the fence of the development site over the past few days.

It is being marketed by Daniel Vella, from Colliers International, at Cotton Tree.
