South Burnett Regional Council has dug deep and provided a total of $465,558 in community assistance to local not-for-profit groups and community associations.
The grand total was revealed at Council’s 4th annual Community Assistance Presentation night held at Kingaroy Town Hall on Wednesday night.
The assistance consisted of:
- $117,000 – Community Assistance Funding Program grants;
- $253,758 – Rates Remissions and Rates Exemptions; and
- $94,800 – Other Community Assistance (waiving of fees and in-kind assistance).
Representatives from dozens of local groups were presented with cheques by Mayor Wayne Kratzmann, Deputy Mayor Keith Campbell and councillors.
Mayor Kratzmann said it was a “wonderful night” for Council.
He said $465,000 was a lot of money but the South Burnett’s community groups multiplied that “tenfold” with what they did in the community.
He also urged the community groups to “nurture our young people” so that they became involved more in the community and could discover the benefits of volunteering.
“You need to get the young people involved, get them in your organisation and bring them along so that the South Burnett will continue to be the great region that it is,” Mayor Kratzmann said.
A light supper was served before the cheque presentations.
