Firefighters have been unable to save a Queenslander which became engulfed in flames on Wednesday evening in Yarraman.

The fire broke out about 8:00pm at the house in Millar Street, which is located a few doors from the doctor’s surgery.

A local resident said the house had been vacant for some time but he believed tenants had been in the process of shifting in.

The house is owned by a former Yarraman resident who is currently managing the community supermarket at Ntaria (Hermannsburg) in the Northern Territory.

Three fire crews were on the scene at 8:30pm.
