Historian Dr Judith Grimes

August 31, 2015

Fathers and families are the theme at the Kingaroy Library this month.

South Burnett mayor Wayne Kratzmann said with Father’s Day approaching, local children were encouraged to invite their dads, stepdads, or any important male figures in their lives along for this Wednesday’s Storytime (September 2)

Of course, mums are welcome, too!

Storytime is held at Kingaroy Library every Wednesday at 10:00am and includes storytelling, rhymes, and crafts.

Next Wednesday (September 9) local historian and author Judith Grimes will be at the library to run a workshop about using online resources to research family history.

Dr Grimes, who is the Family History Director at the Family History Centre, Kingaroy, has researched many South Burnett districts and families.

Libraries across the region hold a selection of her books, including her latest, “Squatters In The South Burnett – Their Life And Times, 1840-1860”.

Her workshop will include advice on how to research online at home, and using free library facilities.

Residents are welcome to bring their laptops and work alongside her, or simply take notes and listen.

Dr Grimes’s family history workshop will start at 10:00am and run for about an hour.

Both the workshop and Storytime events are free.
