The Kingaroy Bees’ junior motorcycle speedway club held its second official meeting on Saturday – and celebrated with the “official” opening of the track.

The deco motorbike track is constructed inside the speedway track at Kingaroy Showground as was built with assistance of a grant from Jupiters Community Benefit Fund.

It is 12m wide (14m on the corners) and features two 28m straights.

The club has already hosted a couple of “Come and Try” days.

It’s first official meeting was held on a shared day with the South Burnett Speedway Club in April.

The second meet was to be held during the Kingaroy Show but was unfortunately cancelled due to the heavy rain that week.

So, the first chance to officially open the track occurred on Saturday with Round 2 and Round 3 of the racing season compressed into one day of racing.

Club secretary Tracey Tunstall said 15 riders had come from Gladstone, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Brisbane and the Gold Coast to race. They had joined 10 local riders.

The club, which now has 80 members, is going from strength to strength but all the young riders need now is an audience to come along to cheer them on. Entry on Saturday was free for a full day of racing.

There could be big things coming up. Tracey said the club had put in an Expression of Interest to host the 125cc State Titles later this year.
