Enjoying the teddy bears picnic … Shayla Shelton, Abigail Saunders and Breana Freeman, all 7

July 30, 2015

The teddy bears came out to play at St John’s Lutheran School in Kingaroy on Wednesday when the school put on its very first Under 8s day.

As well as a Teddy Bears Picnic, there was “glooping” (we’re not sure what it is either, but it was delightfully messy), kite-making, cardboard box construction, mask making, face-painting, stories and an ambulance to explore.

St John’s children from the Wednesday Playgroup, Kindy, Prep and Years 1 and 2 took to the junior playground in Ivy Street for the round of activities as well as an extra opportunity to have fun on all the playground equipment.

Kingaroy paramedic Colleen Brownsey was kept busy bandaging heads and arms, not because of a spate because of accidents but just because the children wanted to play “dress up”.

Kite-making consisted of shopping bags on a string but the children didn’t seem to mind as they ran around with the bags billowing out behind them.

Many parents joined their children in the fun which was topped by a picnic lunch (with the teddy bear, of course).
