The Bloomin’ Beautiful Blackbutt Festival committee has presented a cheque for $1000 to the Bendigo Bank Ravenshoe Fire Victims Appeal.

BBBF chairman Jeff Connor said the bank would disperse the funds to where they were most needed.

Two people were killed and another 20 injured, including the driver, when a ute ran into gas cylinders at the rear of the crowded “Serves You Right” cafe on June 9.

The incident created a fireball which ripped through the cafe; it is believed the driver may have suffered a medical issue prior to the crash.

The Ravenshoe Community Bank has partnered with local charity “GIVIT” and the Tablelands Regional Council to support the victims and their families.

Mr Connor said the bulk of the $1000 was raised in just one week from the residents of the Blackbutt-Benarkin district due to the efforts of the Festival Secretary John Atkins and committee member Jeanette Berry.
