RSPCA campaign ... Dogs Die In Hot Cars

May 28, 2015

A 39-year-old Brisbane man has been fined $2500 today after he left his pet dog to cook in a locked car.

RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty said Craig Jones, from Forest Lake, left his black and white staffy “Max” in a vehicle parked in a Woolloongabba car park while he went to a hotel to drink and play the pokies.

Members of the public spotted the dog in distress and urged Jones to take it to the vet.

Veterinary staff said Max was dead on arrival.

He was extremely hot to the touch and had a temperature so high the thermometer could not read it.

Jones was charged with animal cruelty.

“We consistently tried to interview Mr Jones without success,” Mr Beatty said.

“He has certainly shown no remorse and didn’t even bother turning up to court this morning.

“This is the classic example of a devastating outcome.

“Every year we warn people about leaving dogs in cars in the heat and every year there are some who ignore the warnings.

“Can you imagine the distress Max would have been in while he fought for his life! It’s very distressing.”

  1. It makes my blood boil, too, when I hear this as there is no excuse for animal neglect. You are a gutless wonder, Mr Jones, and hopefully you also received a life ban on dog ownership. You should have also received a custodial system for this heinous crime.

  2. We have domesticated and proliferated these powerless beings (dogs) as toys and slaves. They are always dependent, like children. You do NOT do this to a CHILD!
