Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio has condemned an overnight arson attack on a mosque, calling it “un-Toowoomba”.
“Toowoomba is recognised as a city where people from all creeds and cultures live together peacefully,” Mayor Antonio said.
“This community works hard to nurture and celebrate peace. This kind of behaviour, frankly, is a terrible insult to the majority of good people who call our region home.”
He said Sunday’s Toowoomba International Food Festival, which will be hosted by the Muslim community at the mosque, will still go ahead.
“I encourage the community to come out and show that goodwill and human solidarity will triumph in Toowoomba.”
