What a great week it has been – plenty of Anzac Day action, and plenty of movement on the club championships’ scoreboard, along with quite a bit of club rivalry fuelled by inter-club visits.

Nanango, for instance, travelled to Yarraman last weekend and followed up with a visit to Kingaroy on Thursday.

There was plenty of “Remember When” going on also … especially about the “good old days” when you weren’t particularly good, and weren’t old either.

A throwback in time occurred at Kingaroy occurred on Anzac Day when fourteen bowlers swapped their narrow draw bowls for the older, wide draw bowls.

Some of these bowls were 70 to 80 years old.

In keeping with this theme some members, dressed in bowls uniforms from a bygone era.

The difference in play was evident. but the older bowlers were soon found their stride and adapted quickly.

In pairs:

  • Gladys Slatter and Danny Holligan def. Geoff Clutterbuck and Dave Barwick 31-14
  • Barry O’Brien and Richie Patterson def. Darcy Munro and Beryl Woods 34-12

And in triples, Des Richards, Val Jeppesen and Ray Maclaren def. Lindy Clutterbuck, Alan Rogerson and Col Kratzmann 23-16

In other Kingaroy news, it was Trophy Day on Thursday and Kingaroy’s usual monthly day was made a lot more interesting when an invitation to Nanango was taken up by twelve of their bowlers.

A total of 40 players took to the greens to play pairs and triples.

The teams were a mixture of players from both clubs, which led to some humorous banter between the participants.

A great day was enjoyed by all and a return visit to Nanango was quickly agreed to.

Conditions of play were six points for a win and one point for each end won.

The winners were: Lyle Dascombe (Kingaroy), Henry Bleisner (Nanango) and Greg Schulz (Kingaroy) with 23 points.
