Police have charged a man following a disturbance that occurred yesterday afternoon in Cherbourg.

It will be alleged that around 4:40pm police attended a residence on Bond Street in relation to a disturbance.

Upon their arrival a man left the address and returned armed, allegedly with a mattock and an iron bar, as police were transporting a woman from the residence.

It will also be alleged the man threw the mattock at the police vehicle causing damage and chased the vehicle whilst still armed with the iron bar. He also allegedly threatened police with a large concrete block he obtained whilst following police.

As police attempted to negotiate with the man, he allegedly threw a rock, narrowly missing a police officer and was arrested a short time later.

A 44-year-old Cherbourg man has been charged with three counts of serious assault on police whilst armed, one count each of obstructing police, wilful damage of police property, going armed so as to cause fear, threatening violence, possession of dangerous drugs and breach of a domestic violence order.

He will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court today.
