The finishing touches were being put on Goomeri’s new show pavilion a few weeks ago

March 6, 2015

Show-goers have a feast of local choices over the next few weeks with the Proston Show on tomorrow (March 7), Murgon on March 14 and Goomeri on March 21.

Goomeri show organisers, in particular, have several reasons to celebrate this year … it is the Show Society’s 90th birthday, it’s Goomeri’s 75th Show and after being severely damaged by flooding two years ago the new Pavilion will be finished and officially opened.

With the Pavilion back in action, all the Pavilion Sections will be back at the Goomeri Show this year, including Needlework and Handicraft, Fine Arts, Photography, Farm Produce and Horticulture, and Culinary (including the much-coveted Dark Rich Fruit Cake competition).

There will also be all the usual Ring Events, the Stud and Prime Beef Cattle competition and a Championship Dog Show.

The Official Opening of the Show and the Pavilion will take place at 2:00pm. This will be followed by a Grand Parade which will have a display themed “Down Through The Years”.

As the afternoon turns into evening, entertainment will include Bike v Horse Barrel Races, Team Penning, Tug-O-War and fireworks..

The Goomeri Show Committee is asking anyone who has photos or memorabilia of the past 90 years to contact them as they would like to obtain copies which can be used as part of the celebration on Show Day.

To help celebrate the various anniversaries at Goomeri, a Reunion Dinner will be held on Friday evening (March 20) at the new pavilion.

Everyone who has been ever associated with Goomeri and the Show Society are invited to attend. A two-course meal will be served. For catering purposes, all tickets must be pre-purchased for $25 per person.

Would you like to attend the Goomeri Show for free? Then become a  member of the Show Society for only $10 for adults, $5 for 13-18 year olds and $25 for families.

  • For further information on any of the above, contact the Show Secretary  on (07) 4168-4177.

The old Goomeri Show Pavilion, already battered by a storm, was flooded with a metre of water during the 2013 floods … it was too damaged to be repaired

  1. Just to let you know that the Reunion Dinner pricing is actually $25.00 per person for a two-course meal, not the $20.00 as in the story, and a lovely story it is by the way, a job well done. Thank you.
