ABC Southern Qld Mornings compere Belinda Sanders, Carolyn Knudsen and Fiona Kemp (SBRC), and ABC Open producer Ben Tupas

March 26, 2015

Some of the familiar voices – and less familiar faces – from ABC Radio Southern Queensland are visiting the South Burnett to touch base with loyal listeners.

Breakfast announcer David Iliffe, Mornings presenter Belinda Sanders, ABC Rural reporter Cassie Hough and ABC Open producer Ben Tupas held a mini-forum at the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre on Wednesday night.

The audience had the opportunity to quiz the team about various issues eg. Why wasn’t the World Cup cricket score in the news?

And the ABC team had the chance to gain feedback about what they were doing right, and what could be improved.

Mayor Wayne Kratzmann welcomed the four to the South Burnett and then urged the audience to continue lobbying against government cuts to the ABC.

“Cuts to the ABC are cuts to regional Australia and they are wrong,” he said.

“There are a lot of things in Australia that needed to be trimmed back, but not the ABC.”

ABC Open’s Ben Tupas shared a few tips about shooting photos and videos for social media, and explained how ABC staff members now worked on multiple platforms including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook as well as radio, TV and the web.

If you missed Wednesday night’s forum, there is still time to catch the ABC team while they are in the South Burnett.

David Iliffe will be broadcasting live from the grounds of Ringsfield House in Nanango on Thursday (March 26) from 6:00am to 7:30am. There’ll be breakfast available for a gold coin donation.

Belinda Sanders will be broadcasting from the Kingaroy Town Hall Forecourt from 8:30am – and there’ll be more food available, also for a small donation.

Ben Tupas will be doing a “photo walk”, leaving the Town Hall Forecourt at 10:00am. The free walk will allow participants to learn more about social media photography and using Instagram.
