A television crew came to Kingaroy on Monday to capture something a little bit unusual … cooking a pig in a “pig” and peanuts in a peanut patch!
Host Johanna Griggs and chef “Fast Ed” Halmagyi, from “Better Homes and Gardens”, and their crew visited Rob and Chris Patch at The Peanut Van in Kingaroy before heading out to the Patchs’ property north of Kingaroy to see peanuts growing.
There they were joined by two “pigs” – actually cooking vessels designed and made in Kingaroy by Patty and Bill Winters.
The “pigs” are converted by Bill from old gas bottles (don’t try this at home, folks!) to become versatile cookers which can take a camp oven inside or be used as a barbecue.
They’re perfect for travellers who are short on space, such as campers or caravanners.
Fast Ed whipped up a delicious pork and peanut dish in the two pigs out in the middle of the peanut paddock, but the exact details of the recipe will have to remain secret until the segment airs, most likely on March 13.
“Better Homes and Gardens” is on Fridays at 7:00pm on Channel 7.
