A clip of ETU secretary Peter Simpson taken from the LNP advertisement on YouTube

An LNP advertisement alleging the Labor movement in Queensland is being supported by outlaw motorcycle gangs – which features Electrical Trades Union secretary Peter Simpson – has drawn a swift response from the union.

Mr Simpson released a statement today:

“The Electrical Trades Union has never:

  • Received monies from any criminal organisations;
  • Received monies from any Outlaw Motorcycle Groups;
  • Received monies from the Liberal National Party;
  • Received monies from Buddhists;
  • Received monies from NASA;
  • Received monies from Soul Pattinson;
  • Received monies from Newcrest Mining;
  • Received monies from Acland Coal.”

“We will not be conducting any further media on this most ridiculous of issues, it is a sign of sheer desperation from an out-of-touch, out-of-time government,” Mr Simpson said.

Speaking at the People’s Forum in Red Hill on Friday night, Premier Campbell Newman alleged bikie gangs had funnelled money to the Labor Party through the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union.

And then yesterday, the LNP released the video featuring Mr Simpson from the ETU.

A member of an outlaw motorcycle club responded by posting a screenclip on social media of a donation he had made to the LNP, and urged other bikies to do the same.

LNP State Director Brad Henderson told the Brisbane Times today the donation was a “stunt” and had been refunded.

“The party is unaware of any donation from bikies apart from one who admitted it was a deliberate stunt to distract from the established links between bikies and some unions,” he said.

The ETU and CFMEU have been supporting the “Not4Sale” campaign which has been directed against the State Government’s proposed sale or leasing of State-owned assets.

FOOTNOTE: South Burnett Online can’t help but wonder why the ETU would not accept donations from Buddhists or NASA …
