Greens candidate Grant Newson

January 8, 2015

Brooklands resident Grant Newson announced this morning that he would be standing for the Queensland Greens at the January 31 State election.

Mr Newson is the fourth candidate to put up his hand to contest the seat of Nanango, joining Liz Hollens-Riley (ALP), Ray Hopper (KAT) and Deb Frecklington (LNP).

Mr Newson has lived in the South Burnett for more than 14 years and has previously stood for The Greens in the 2010 and 2013 Federal elections and the 2012 State election.

He has been a vocal campaigner against the State Government’s VLAD laws and was also involved in the campaign against Cougar Energy’s controversial underground coal gasification plant near Kingaroy.

“Protecting the highly valuable cropping land from further mining exploration is a priority for The Greens,” Mr Newson said.

“The Greens have a complete and comprehensive policy list covering every aspect of governing.

“For a long time now, The Greens have extended far beyond being just environmentalists entering into the full political arena with an ever growing number of representatives at both State and Federal levels.

“It is time that Queensland had a Green representative in Parliament to bring us back to the 21st century and catch up with other States.”
