The Magistrates Court Service has advised that a number of courthouses around Queensland have been contacted by members of the public who have received an emailed “Notice of Appearance” that requests their appearance at a nominated date and time.

The email further requests that the recipients bring with them various documents attached to the email.

The emails have been sent from random email addresses unconnected to the Queensland Courts or Department of Justice and Attorney-General.

The Magistrates Court Service advises the emails are spam, and the attached documents should not be opened.

Recipients who have already opened the attachments should run a security scan of their computer.

People who have been directed to attended a courthouse, should contact the nominated courthouse to ascertain if there are any upcoming court appearances in their name.
