St Mary’s Catholic College Year 12 student Gabe Crane has taken out an Age Champion title for the seventh year in a row at the Fraser Coast Interschool Equestrian competition.

Gabe and his trusty horse Commando have held the honour of Open Age Champion every year since he was in Year 6.

He elected to compete this year despite the looming QCS and other Year 12 assessment commitments.

Also taking out an Age Champion award was St Mary’s Year 6 student Patrick Frohloff who won the Year 7 Age Champion title.

The Fraser Coast Equestrian competition features a wide range of events including dressage, jumping, hacking, speed sporting races and stockwork-related events.

This year 244 riders from 59 schools competed over the two days, August 28-29.

St Mary’s sent their largest team ever to the competition, with 14 riders lining up for various events: Cherie Baldacchino, Naomi Baldachhino, Bridget Barkle, Gabe Crane, Patrick Frohloff, Renee Irvine, Erin Newman, Jayde Novak, Lidia Penny, Cameron Teske, Meg Wernecke, Molly Wernecke, Bonnie Winch and Madison Wintour.

The college team came third overall and team members either won or were placed in 63 different aspects of the competition.
