Visitors who drop into the Kingaroy Art Gallery during the South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show long weekend will be able to see a wide and varied exhibition from some of the region’s best artists.

They’ll also be able to view a brand new exhibition that will be opening on Friday night, October 3.

Over the long weekend the gallery will be displaying “Life Matters” – a large exhibition put together by Kingaroy’s Jumping Ant Arts group.

The first phase of exhibition opened in mid-August this year when a dozen Jumping Ant Arts members filled the gallery with paintings, prints, pottery, textile works, spun garments, photography and woodworks.

Then in September, sold works were removed from the exhibition to make space for an update showcasing pottery created by students at a series of workshops the group had run in July and August.

These delightful pieces now occupy one of the gallery’s smaller rooms.

And on Friday, October 3 the exhibition will be extended again when the Gallery officially opens its annual Disability Art Show, which will hang in the rear gallery until October 23.

The Disability Art Show is put on every year by the gallery to celebrate Mental Health Week (which runs from October 5-12).

This year’s theme is “Create Your Journey”, and works will be judged on their relevance to the competition theme, as well as their impact, originality and inspirational quality.

The competition is being co-ordinated by the South Burnett Community Mental Health Service, and the Kingaroy Lions Club will be providing prizes to the winners,

The official opening and announcement of prize-winners will be held at 6:00pm.

  • “Life Matters” and the “Disability Art Show” will be on display at the Kingaroy Art Gallery at 128 Haly Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am to 4:30pm on Friday, October 3; 10:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, October 4-5; and 10:00am to 2:00pm on Monday, October6. Admission to view the exhibitions is free.
