The cold weather has stayed with us this last week, and it’s made sleeping in under warm covers a lot more attractive than it is in sunnier times.

Still, keen bowlers are rarely deterred by cold weather. And there was action aplenty on the greens all around the region.

All the same – now that we’ve entered the last month of winter – I must admit I’m looking at the calendar and starting to count down the days to Spring. And I don’t think I’m the only one.

But here’s what’s been happening this week:

Yarraman news:

Yarraman have had some problems in pushing their club championships to conclusion, and new Games Director Horst Myer has asked all players to make a special effort to complete the calendar by the end of August.

But matches played this week attracted a lot of interest.

In the Men’s Pairs Championships, John Moore and Todd Currell defeated Ian Mowat and Steve Daly 23-16.

And the Mixed Triples match played was a great game to watch, with Neil Johnston, Yvonne Schultz and Chris MacLeod defeating Horst Myer, Alison Anderson and Ron Lucas 23-17.

The Ladies Club Championship Pairs match on Wednesday proved a one-sided match: Helene Johnson and Daphne Stewart defeated Gloria Anderson and Glenda Wolski 28-10.

On the first four ends all players started tentatively, adjusting to the slow speed of the green.

After four ends, Anderson and Wolski led 3-2. But from there on in Johnson and Stewart bounded away scoring multiple points winning 28-10.

In other games:

  • Ivy Wrembeck, Robyn Diercke and Eunice Smith def. Di Currell, Kay Dugdell and Alison Anderson 15-11
  • Neil Currell and Eileen Elliott def. Bev Profke and Roy Wrembeck 20-11
  • Brian Dugdell and Lola Harper def. Horst Myer and Yvonne Schultz 26-11
