Murgon men now officially have their own shed … a place to make things, socialise and swap yarns.

The shed, on former railway land in Macalister Street, has passed through a few hands before it could finally be handed over to the Murgon Men’s Shed group on Friday.

Cr Kathy Duff, from South Burnett Regional Council, said Aurizon, Transport & Main Roads, Queensland Rail and finally the South Burnett Regional Council were involved in the ownership discussions.

The culmination of months of work was the official handing over the keys to the shed by Deputy Premier and Member for Callide Jeff Seeney on Friday afternoon.

Mr Seeney said the Men’s Shed movement was “fantastic”, and a Men’s Shed was a great asset for any community.

He joked that he was looking forward to spending time at one in the future “but that’s a while away yet”.

Murgon Men’s Shed president Paul Pfeffer assured the Deputy Premier the shed would be put to good use.

He said the group, which has 25 registered members already, has been meeting every Wednesday and just “marking time” until they had their own building.

Mr Pfeffer said the Men’s Shed was a place where men could be socially active and build camaraderie and self-worth.

It is non-denominational and is being auspiced by the Graham House Community Centre.
