The inaugural Inverlaw Walk For MS on Sunday attracted more than double the expected number of participants and raised more than $4000 for Multiple Sclerosis Queensland.

Organiser Josie Potter, who will be competing in the Brissie To Bay Bike Ride for a fourth time later this month with her Kingaroy Cruisers team, said she was thrilled with the outcome.

“We had an enormous day – much, much bigger than we anticipated,” Josie said.

“I originally hoped for between 30 to 60 walkers and runners and we wound up with 124!

“I’m totally blown away by the community support that we’ve received.”

The Walk was held at held at “Glenhye” on the Kingaroy-Burrandowan Road on Sunday morning.

Participants had the choice of a 7.5km, 13km or 21.2km course, and could walk or run them as they preferred.

Josie said she didn’t have a final fundraising tally yet, but expects the event will have raised between $4000 to $4500 after expenses.

She paid special thanks to the South Burnett Regional Council’s Healthy Communities Program, which helped assist with the costs of running the event.

During the morning, the group also drew the winners of a quilt raffle that has been running in conjunction with the event.

The winners were:

  • 1st: Mr D Brown
  • 2nd: Julie Stenning
  • 3rd: Mrs J Stevens
  • 4th: Kev and Denise Weir
  • 5th: Stacey Crawford
  • 6th: Joanne Brown

Alyce Govier was also presented with a prize for being the day’s highest individual fundraiser ($380).
