A funeral service will be held in Kingaroy next Monday (April 28) for well-known former Kingaroy pastor Danny Russell who died on Saturday after a long illness.

Pastor Russell, 61, was ordained as a Baptist Minister and later spent about five years attached to the Christian Life Centre in Kingaroy.

While there, he worked to establish The South Burnett Pantry.

This award-winning service has been going from strength to strength since it began in 2012, distributing more than 60 food hampers on Fridays to local families.

Ruth Dukes, from the Christian Life Centre, said The Pantry was Pastor Russell’s “vision” and he worked for at least two years to get it off the ground.

In recent years, Danny – and his daughter Leah – have been presenting the “Sunday Vibes” radio show on Wild Horse FM in Yarraman on Sunday evenings.

His “Celebration of Life” service will be held at the Highway Christian Church from 10:30am on Monday.

Pastor Russell is survived by his wife Julie and daughter Leah.
