“They need a night off …”  If the roll-up at Saturday night’s free barbecue in Nanango for local farmers was any indication, they appreciated the generosity of the Copper Country Motel owners Kerri and Nigel Southee for organising the break.

” We wanted to do something for local farmers,” Kerri told southburnett.com.au

“With the drought and everything else, they need a night off. If you walk around and ask them, they’ll tell you how much they appreciate a night off.”

The couple received 162 RSVPs to the barbecue, from farmers throughout the Nanango and Coolabunia areas.

“We made a few phone calls and then it spread by word of mouth,” Kerri said.

She said a number of sponsors from the local business community had also come on board to make the night a reality:  FoodWorks Nanango, Big W,  Orchys Fresh, butcher Murray Dioth, Wayne’s World, South Burnett Hire, Prices Plus and Bidvest.

“And of course our staff who volunteered for the evening and Taabinga Rotary,” she said.

The farmers and their families enjoyed the barbecue in the front gardens of the motel.

One Response to "A Night Off For Our Farmers"

  1. We would also like to thank Nanango Meats for the great sausages, Narelle & Louise Black, Liz Caffery and Libby McCallum for assisting us in getting all these wonderful farming families together. It was a terrific night for the community and we are so proud to be able to give something back to our community.
