Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney has made good on his promise to give the South Burnett Regional Council $10 million towards the cost of upgrading Kingaroy’s ageing Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The State Government today announced the list of successful applicants for Round 2 of its “Royalties For The Regions” program.

Twenty regional councils will share $100 million in grants.

The South Burnett Regional Council and Toowoomba Regional Council are two of the top three recipients.

Mr Seeney said approved Round 2 projects would help create better roads, water treatment and supply facilities, and important services such as childcare centres in regional Queensland.

“Round 3 expressions of interest applications have just closed and the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning has received keen interest from 43 regional councils submitting a total of 88 expressions of interest,” he said.

“Royalties for the Regions is successful because of its collaboration and partnership with industry and local government.

“I look forward to announcing short listed Round 3 expressions of interest in April this year.”
