Shona Muckert with the “Legs” calendar officially launched on Friday night … sales of the calendar will go towards the fund to help her walk again

December 1, 2013

The newly renovated Murgon Golf Club hosted a special fundraiser on Friday night to assist local mum Shona Muckert.

Shona, a double amputee, lost both her legs in a motor vehicle accident near Murgon nine years ago and has been trying to raise funds to undergo a special procedure which would enable her to walk again.

A committee has been formed in Murgon to help her reach her goal.

Their latest fund-raising activity was the launch of a 2014 “Legs” calendar shot by local photographers Sherrianne Talon, Peter Allcock, Kym Cross and Shona’s sister Laura Muckert.

The night also featured an auction, by Jimmy Hayne, of copies of the images from the calendar printed on canvas.

The calendars are now available at Mark Smith’s Menswear in Murgon, the Murgon and Wondai pharmacies, Murgon Bakery, Mobbs Mitre 10 Murgon and Dennis Electrical in Murgon.

The function was the first opportunity many people in the local community have had to take a look at the extended Murgon Golf clubhouse.

Club secretary Mark Smith said the club had spent about $85,000 on the new covered deck area and toilet block, both of which feature disabled access.

Mark said money for the upgrade, which has enabled the club to host family-friendly functions in the open air, had come from profits from the bar.

A function is planned in the New Year to officially open the extensions.

Stanwell Corporation has also assisted with about $11,000 support from its Community Partnership Fun to install a new coldroom inside the clubhouse.

Mark said the area was now available for hire for corporate and private functions. Bookings can be made by phoning the club on (07) 4168-1608.
