Wondai offered a smorgasbord of choices for visitors during the South Burnett And Cherbourg On Show long weekend – and High Teas as well.

On Saturday afternoon, Dimities Cottage held a Spring Garden Party to provide a break for visitors who’d come to the Wondai Regional Art Gallery to see the South Burnett Art Competition or take part in the opening celebrations for the Wondai Hotel and Cellar.

The Garden Party ran from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, and after a busy morning many people took the opportunity to sit down and tuck into a lavish High Tea while they waited for the afternoon to cool down.

Most guests chose to sit on Dimities’ shaded balconies, sheltered from the sun by the cottage’s gardens, but others sat indoors.

Chef Graham Mitchell and staff waited on the diners, who came from both inside and outside the region.

But while locals were used to the fare, some visitors expressed genuine surprise at the quality and value of the food.

“This High Tea is just awesome,” Sandy Hedges from Hervey Bay said when her order was served.

“I’ve don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it.”

The Garden Party was followed the next day by one of Dimities’ “Lunch In The Country” luncheons – an all-you-can-eat BYO smorgasbord affair that proved as popular with tourists as it does with locals.

Dimities usually hold these twice a month on Sundays, but altered their October schedule slightly to give visitors the chance to enjoy something many South Burnett residents now take for granted.
