South Burnett and Cherbourg On ShowSeptember 18, 2013

If you love browsing through country markets and you’re visiting the South Burnett or Cherbourg over the October long weekend, make sure you get to Nanango on Saturday morning, October 5.

Once every month – on the first Saturday, including public holidays – the Nanango Showgrounds erupts into life with one of the biggest country markets in south-east Queensland.

The showgrounds are located right next to the D’Aguilar Highway just a few blocks north of Nanango’s CBD.

And between 6:00am and noon, about 400 stallholders pack them out, offering everything from hot dogs and fairy floss through to arts, crafts, gardening products, tools, car parts…. you name it, and there’s probably one, two or up to a dozen different stalls offering it.

The markets have been running for almost 20 years and have become an icon of the South Burnett.

You can walk the grounds for hours inspecting all the different stands, then take a break at the showgrounds’ canteen for tea, coffee, soft drinks … even breakfast if you need it.

The Nanango Showgrounds are also home to many major events during the course of each year – everything from the traditional Nanango Show (held each April) through to campdrafts, pony club gymkhanas, the Nanango Country Music Muster (held each September) and the new Waterhole Rocks Rock & Roll Festival (every October).

These events have helped the showgrounds build up great facilities for visitors, and they’re all available for visitors to use on Market Day.

Admission to the Nanango Markets is completely free.

And visitors are always welcome!
