Co-owner of the proposed Blackbutt Medical Centre complex Jeff Connor  “seals the deal” with a handshake with master builder Alan Cameron on site at 91 Coulson Street, Blackbutt

A new medical centre at Blackbutt moved a step closer today with the acceptance of a tender to construct the building.

Jeff Connor, co-owner of the development, and Alan Cameron, owner of Alan Cameron Master Built Homes, Buderim, shook hands at the site when Alan’s tender was accepted.

“This moment brings the tender process to an end and starts the construction process,” Jeff said.

“After nearly 18 months of planning, quotes, drawings, specs, engineer’s reports, approvals, permits and emails, this project is now moving another step closer.”

Project manager Wayne Emms said five builders had tendered for the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of June.

“Weather permitting, we will start on site early in December with site preparation and fencing in place before Christmas,” Mr Cameron said.

Mr Emms said the builder would be using local tradespeople for floor coverings, plumbing, cabinet making, excavation and numerous other sub-contracted jobs.

The new centre will have parking for 16 cars, covered walkways, a three-bed treatment room, six consulting rooms, a visiting specialist facility and ‘state of the art’ e-health and teleconferencing facilities.

When completed, the Blackbutt Pharmacy would re-locate to the front of the centre and an internal door would link both businesses.

“The new building will allow the team to continue as a medical training facility for University of Queensland medical students and offer highly valued GP Training Post positions for GP Registrars in up-to-date, modern and e:Health ready facilities.

“Blackbutt is the gateway to the South Burnett and this development is a show of confidence in the development and prosperity of the region.”

UPDATED November 20: Jeff Connor confirmed today that construction should start in early December.

“All going to plan we should be open with new medical centre and Pharmacy as of July 1. Maybe even earlier.” he said.
