Local landholders interested in forestry management practices have been invited to attend a “chopper roller” field day at BJ Gentry’s eastern property off Manumbar Road, north of Nanango, on Friday, April 20.

(This field day has been re-scheduled from February 3).

The free field day, from 9:00am-3:00pm, will demonstrate cost-effective ways to thin overstocked spotted gum regrowth forest.

A chopper roller is used to cut and flatten woody debris in strips through dense regrowth forest, creating access for management activities between the strips.

The main advantage of the chopper roller is improving access for thining out the retained forest between the strips. It can also improve access for fire management.

Attendees are asked to wear closed shoes and bring along a packed lunch, water bottle and a chair. Morning tea will be provided.
