What We Do...
(And What We Can Do For You!)
South Burnett Health is the outcome of several studies undertaken in the
early 2000s which identified that access to health services information
for ordinary consumers is a major problem - not only in rural Queensland,
but throughout Australia generally.
There are many reasons why consumers find it difficult to obtain up-to-date
health and social welfare information.
Some of them are tied to the policies that govern the way medical services
are run in Queensland. Some are related to a very low use of the Internet
in Queensland Health at the present time. And some are related to the ephemeral
nature of some health services, which are only given short-term funding to
deal with a small range of specific problems and which wink out of existence
once those problems are addressed and/or funding ceases.
While South Burnett Health doesn't attempt to solve these sorts of
problems, what do try to do is provide our visitors with an
accurate and up-to-date, easily searchable public database of all the health
service facilities that are available in the South Burnett region of
Queensland, Australia at any particular point in time.
We also try to present news about health initiatives in our region
that we hope will be of use to many people in the general public; and provide
a channel of communication for people involved in the health industry
which will help make their news more easily accessible to the public at large.
Our intention is to enhance the overall level of public information
in this particular area and in doing so, to help ensure that South Burnett
residents are made fully aware of all the health services available to them.
This means that if you have a health-related service in the South Burnett
and
aren't listed with us, you're failing to publicise your
services and directly contributing to the frustration that many consumers
feel trying to access health and welfare services.
But getting listed is easy! You can either use our
online registration
form or phone us during office hours on (07) 4162-3899. There's
no charge at all for this service.
Similarly, if you are listed with us but your details have
changed, you can follow the same process (ie online form or phone)
to have your details updated. We try to update our database within a few
working days of being advised of any changes - and very often we do it the
same day.

South Burnett Health was initially created with generous assistance from
the
Southern Queensland Rural Division
of General Practice and South Burnett health professionals.
All parties involved in South Burnett Health believe that
easy public
access to up-to-date information about health services in rural Queensland
is a worthwhile goal which will result in a public good.
And while the scope of a State-wide database is beyond our abilities, a
region-wide database for the South Burnett certainly isn't!
